We are very proud of our Outdoor Learning focus at Ballysillan. In 2021 we were awarded with 120k worth of outdoor resources which completely changed the landscape of our school grounds. We now have sand pits, an outdoor classroom, outdoor play houses, water areas, mindfulness areas, a multi usage pitch, a polytunnel and a wide range of games and activities. Every class will experience outdoor learning lessons at least once a week. We believe that engaging children in Outdoor Learning has multiple benefits:

1) Improves mental health and wellbeing.

2) Children are able to connect and build relationships with nature and the world around them.

3) All children learn in different ways and engaging with the curriculum outside allows children to experience a sense of freedom and fun outside of the formal classroom.

4) Many children thrive outside and the change in environment can bring certain concepts to life!

5) By moving away from regimented seating plans and standard classroom based learning, children can embrace a greater sense of freedom and independence.
